DIVINE FAVOR
Divine Favor is God’s supernatural influence working positively over ones’ life and situation. We have a promise of God that we shall find favor and be in high esteem and good understanding in the sight of God and men. (Proverbs 3: 4) People will go out of their way to help you achieve your objectives and purpose.
Samuel the prophet had favor with God and men, 1 Samuel 2:26: “And the Child Samuel grew in stature and in favor both with the Lord and men.”
Jesus Christ had favor, Luke 2:52, 40: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men;” vs40 “and the Child grew and became strong in the spirit filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.”
Joseph was also favored, Gen 39:2, 4. “But the Lord was with Joseph, and he (though a slave) was a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian,
vs4 So Joseph pleased (Potiphar) and found favor in his sight, and served him. (Amplified)
What is favor? Favor is being friendly or showing kind regard, liking, approval, unfair partiality, attractiveness, to help, assist, endorse and to do a kindness for someone or something or someplace. Favor will cause people to go out of their ways to bless you without even knowing why they are doing it. However let me encourage you to let your favor be guided by the word of God.
Queen Esther had favor with King Ahasuerus. Esther 2:17, “The king loved Esther more than all the other women and she obtained favor in his sight more than all the virgins….”
The King’s law forbade coming to his presence without invitation, but after three days of fasting and prayer, Esther found favor with the king. She went into his presence without invitation. (Esther 5:2)
How do we activate favor?
- Sow favor to reap favor.
- Gen8:22 promised that seedtime and harvest shall not cease whilst the earth remains. Luke 6:38 says, give, in the measure you give, men shall also give to you. Learn to sow favor ,
- Enter into the covenant of favor with God based on his promises in the scripture in areas where you desire favor
- Pray to receive favor from God and men (Proverbs 3:4)
- Let the confession of your heart and mouths agree with the word of God concerning divine favor.
What can bring you favor?
- Learn to overcome evil with good, do good to those that are not good to you. (Matthew 5:44; 12:21). One of the greatest acts of goodness of Joseph apart from forgiving his brothers was that he did not avenge the hurt and false accusation of Potiphar’s wife.
- Learn to forgive at all times. If someone offends you, forgive them, and go a step further to settle any strife between you and others.
How favor can be lost:
- Having negative attitude.
- Being rude and pushy
- Not taking care of personal hygiene, such as body or mouth odor. Dressing shabbily.
- Not keeping ones’ word, telling lies, taking other people for granted.
- Murmuring and gossiping.
- Always wanting to have your way, at the expense of others.
- Being ungrateful.
- Cheating in business.
